Shahee Bhelpoori Croydon - Croydon
Vegetarian South Indian Restaurant
This is actually in Norbury not Croydon in fact it's almost in Streatham but the vegan choice is awesome and it's only a couple of stops on the train then straight across the road.
Service is brilliant, food is delicious, there is vegan ice cream, Kasmiri falooda (big girls blouse drink) and vegan lassi if you want it. He makes a cracking vegan peswarii naan / paratha that's great for mopping up the sauce.
The Ketchup with the samosas is a bit weird – I think it's those blinking sabs and weird vegan SEAR lot that have led them astray, now they think all vegans are addicted to ketchup.
They do a great buffet on Sundays for about a £5 but the a la carte stuff is better so don't go thinking that's as good as it gets – they will deliver to Croydon but only if they are not too busy and they love you.
Shahee Belpoori specialises in Kerala style Because of the diversity of people coming into and setting in Kerala over the centuries, the region has an open attitude to visitors and a powerful mix of cultures and religions. It has India’s lowest birthrate and its highest literacy rate, and probably the highest concentration of poets and artists.
