Croydon Nutritionist Joins fight to save Fruit and Vegetable Stand

Croydon Council to Ban Kurdish Fruit and Veg Sellers – Croydon Nutritionist says SOS – Save Our Stall ! Please sign petition and join campaign

Croydon Council is planning to turn the Kurds away and ban the van that sells fruit and vegetables near East Croydon Station.

Croydon Councilor’s move has infuriated Croydon’s TV Nutritionist, hundreds of commuters at East Croydon Station , Students at Croydon College and Croydon Vegetarians and Vegans. Hundreds of indignant Croydoners have already signed an SOS petition and are at a loss to understand the real reasons why Croydon Council have objected to the fruit and vegetable stall.

Libelous rumours are beginning to circulate such as that there is arm twisting at the planning office, there is conflict of interest or simple racism against a couple of hard working Kurdish guys Croydon councillors, well known for their love of drab high rise grey concrete blocks are alleged to have objected to the green van with it’s brightly coloured fruit and vegetables on the grounds that it’s ‘ugly’.

One of the many people who recently signed the petition to save the fruit and veg stall said “I think they’ve got a blooming cheek! If they want Croydon to look prettier they should do something about the Croydon Council Offices - now that’s ugly!”

Croydon Nutritionist Yvonne Bishop-Weston who has recently appeared on GMTV, BBC the One Show and previously on ITN news was livid when she heard the news. She said “When other councils , PCTs, the NHS and the World Health Organisation are spending millions of pounds trying to encourage people to eat more fruit and vegetables it’s absolutely ludicrous that Croydon Council are doing the opposite!”

A big percentage of the people I see in my clinics have developed conditions largely due to a lack of the minerals, vitamins, fibre and the anti-oxidants contained in fruit and vegetables. The positive effects of fruit and vegetable consumption on cardio vascular disease, certain cancers, fertility, poor skin and digestive problems including constipation are well documented.

The Croydon Fruit and Vegetable Stall is the sort of health promotion scheme that Government health ministers could only dream of - targeting thousands commuters and making it easier to enjoy five daily portions of fresh fruit and vegetables. Not only is the project totally privately funded unlike many other schemes around the UK but Jawher Ahmad Mohammed and Salam Hassan are coughing up £153 per month in business rates, £1000 per year in council tax, £377 per year for a street traders license, £200 for planning permission and hundreds of pounds worth of VAT.

Even the oppressive regime of City of Westminster allow fruit and vegetable stands - it’s a London tradition
